How Transformational Breath® Changed My Life

Transformational Breath® is a self- empowering healing technique developed by Dr Judith Kravitz, who cured herself of a malignant growth on her neck. Judith had a background in meta-physics, re-birthing, and breath work prior to her illness. By experimenting with various breath techniques, she created what is now known as Transformational Breath®. The technique uses an open mouth, conscious connected breath, toning and movement, while lying flat or propped at a 45% angle. It works on three levels: the physical, mental-emotional, and spiritual. The three levels of Transformational Breath® allow you to breath more fully, unblocking restricted breathing patterns, to access more peace and joy in your life and ultimately attain higher states of consciousness. It is therefore a complete healing system which can change your life.

My own encounter with Transformational Breath® goes back to 2012 when I attended a workshop. For the first time I understood you do not have to tell a story, you do not have to do any analysis or interpretation, you simply must breathe and stay connected to your own body. This is where healing takes place. I was so blown away by that first experience that I decided to have some one-on-one sessions, attend a six-day deep immersion into Transformational Breath® and eventually complete the full training course to become a certified facilitator. Practicing Transformational Breath® daily has completely changed my life, from being chronically ill with ME or chronic fatigue syndrome to being happy, healthy, and vibrant. Along with other modalities I can truly say Transformational Breath® has been a life saver and that is why I am passionate to share it.

The Origins of Transformational Breath®

Dr Judith Kravitz discovered conscious breathing through the practice known as Rebirthing. This type of breathwork was designed to relieve the individual of the numerous traumas experienced during birth.

Judith then began to practice healing breath techniques with her clients, and over time developed techniques and a new process that she names, Transformational Breath®.

“Through sharing this gift with so many people throughout the world, I have been shown that the breath is our most powerful yet simple tool for joyful healing and passionate living.” Judith Kravitz (Breathe Deep Laugh Loudly)

Judith developed Transformational Breath® into a powerful self-healing modality, which integrates various principles from her doctoral studies in metaphysics, Kundalini Yoga, breath analysis, sound healing, body mapping plus other healing and spiritual principles. In 2007, the Transformational Breath® Foundation was established in the UK, which has supported a surge in Certified Facilitator membership. The Foundation presents qualified facilitators with a forum that encourages continued development and provides regulations and standards.

Overcoming Chronic Illness: A Testament to Transformational Breath®

In June 2002, I took a rare weekend away from my young family to visit the Egyptian pyramids. I was a carefree, happily married, mother of three. Having been inside the pyramid in the early morning, that same afternoon I became light-headed, giddy, off balance as if I was drunk. Over the weekend, the symptoms worsened and by the time I flew back to Heathrow, London I was barely able to stand.

Shortly after my return, I was diagnosed with ME/chronic fatigue syndrome and told that I had probably contracted a virus in Egypt. I would become bedridden for the next two years, which resulted in me being even too weak to sit up. My body shook uncontrollably, my mind was in turmoil. What was to become of me? I was forty four years old. My intimate life with my husband was gone along with my educational consultancy work, my role as a hands-on mother, and my social life had evaporated.

The doctors’ prognosis was that there was nothing more they could do. I would always be bedridden. My life felt as if it was over.

I spent the next two long years predominantly in bed. This enforced rest gave me a chance to focus inwards, I underwent intense emotional swings. At my lowest, I pleaded with my husband to take me to Switzerland for euthanasia. When he refused and I realised, he was not going to give up on me, I felt angry and frustrated with him, with myself and with the world.

I had to find another option and stop the mental torment. To keep my mind occupied I turned to the Open University. I was able to study from home. I eventually completed a foundation degree in psychology, all the while remaining in bed. That course was a blessing.

My Personal Journey with Holistic Healing

One morning two years into my illness there was a curious sensation in the pit of my stomach, as if a key was turning under my navel. I heard a voice tell me ‘You will not die, you will live and you will live fully’. What did this mean? I had no idea. At the time, I paid little attention to it and carried on with my studies, but something had shifted. By the end of that second year, I found a very gifted spiritual healer who used her voice to heal. She had a huge vocal range and somehow her voice resonated with parts of my body, that were blocked, painful and sore.

Both my body and mind began to respond, and I was eventually well enough to enrol in her yoga class. Gentle movement helped me regain physical strength and resilience.

I made giant strides physically, and six months after hearing that ‘I would live fully’, with my regained confidence I was able to resume part-time work (albeit just 2 hours weekly) in a local university. I was still living cerebrally, very disconnected from my body. I was searching for something, though I did not know what. By some strange coincidence, a friend gave me a book entitled ‘The Journey’ which I read and completed all the exercises. Shortly afterward I attended my first weekend of Journey Intensive.

The Journey is a meditation technique which guides you into a deep state of awareness that enables insight, letting go and forgiveness, allowing your body to access its own healing ability. I was impressed with the deep self-awareness I encountered that weekend but soon my mind took over. I convinced myself I could rationalise my way out of illness, surely the questions I asked had answers in academia.

Expanding My Healing Practices

A year later in 2006, I embarked on an MSc course in Psychology. For the next few years, I continued seeing various complimentary therapists, as well as conventional medical consultants and my health improved greatly. After graduating I worked in organisational psychology implementing organisational change and development projects. All the time my heart was calling me to deeper work.

To regain full health and balance in my life, I began to connect to my creativity through writing poetry and singing in community groups. I regularly practiced yoga and swam. I travelled far and wide including to Hawaii, India, Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, North America, Africa, Australia, soaking in sacred sites and expanding my understanding of the world. I found I love to travel to new cultures and experience the diverse tapestry of life.

With all these life enhancing experiences I connected to my body, mind and spirit; this was what I had been yearning for all those years. My physical health was good and my whole attitude to life had changed. I was drawn to The Journey in a deeper way. I found myself completing several parts of the Journey course and I began to feel that maybe I could help others. By 2010 I decided to train as a Journey Method™ practitioner, which was challenging on all levels, I had to let go of old beliefs about myself and my family and life in general. I faced up to secret games I played with myself, to keep myself hidden from the world, I began to speak my truth. The following year I saw clients at weekends and holidays, while still working in organisational psychology.

I loved working with The Journey Method™ and when a senior Journey practitioner invited me to experience Transformational Breath® I was amazed with the power of conscious connected breath. Transformational Breath® is a self- empowering healing technique that uses a higher vibrational energy (created through circular breathing) to create shifts at the physical, mental and emotional levels, ultimately leading to higher states of consciousness. I began to practice this breath technique daily (I still do) and I found I had more energy and more control over my health than I previously realised. In fact, I could change how my body responds to outside stressors and I could calm my nervous system, releasing stress and anxiety, thus creating more peace and joy in my life.

I wanted to share this breath technique with my clients and so I qualified as a Transformational Breath® facilitator in 2015.

Establishing Whalebones Wellbeing Centre

In 2018 we opened Whalebones Wellbeing Centre in our garden, in Barnet, North London. It is a 15 mins walk from High Barnet tube station and is serviced by several buses and is only a short distance from Junction 23 off the M25. I established Integrative Associates in 2018, the business currently offers Transformational Breath® workshops and seminars, one to one Journey sessions, Transformational Breath® sessions and Magnetic Mind Coaching.

Living a Life of Health and Gratitude

I am deeply grateful for having The Journey Method™, Magnetic Mind and Transformational Breath® in my life. Breath work is easy to practice even 10 to 15 minutes a day makes a huge difference. I breathe first thing in the morning, setting an intention for the day and then getting on with doing the work I love.
